A fantastic run for this years May Meander, starting at Doddington Hall, designed by Robert Smythson and completed in 1600, through Aubourn and Haddington where the Ruins of St Peter's Church can be seen.

Crossing over the River Witham (four times) before getting to Orston. RAF Swinderby was next and the sculpture of "On Freedom's Wings" which represents a Lancaster returning to RAF Swinderby. Although the sculpture is a memorial to all Bomber Command Aircrews, it depicts the Lancaster R5689 which crashed close by on 18th September 1942 as it returned from a mission over the Baltic Sea. Sadly four of the seven crew members lost their lives.
The sculpture is 26m long, the wingspan is 31m and its tip is 28m off the ground which makes it taller than the Angel of the North.
From here we followed on through:
RAF Norton Disney, Stapleford Woods, Beckingham Rifle Range, Beckingham Camp, Beckingham Village, Stubton Hall, Dry Doddington, Long Bennington, Costa Row, Long Bennington, RAF Bottesford, Staunton-in-the-Vale, Kilverton & Gypsum mining.
All of the above took us to our final destination of the Durham Ox Pub where a beautiful meal awaited, the hungry travellers.

And of course...our furry friends are always welcome on our A7 journey's wherever possible!
