Whilst Pete and Sue Rowlands were enjoying their annual fix of winter sunshine, 20 of us gathered on a wet, dismal evening to hear Mike Credland deliver his well researched, illustrated talk on "Aviation Connections to Lincolnshire in the Second World War" (picture below).
Before he got into his stride we spent a few moments of reflection remembering the life of one of the Group's stalwarts, Peter Davis, who died in January having just celelbrated his 90th Birthday,
Although Lincolnshire is renowned as "Bomber County" Mike's talk embraced not only Bomber Command but also Fighter Command and Training Command. His theme concentrated on those who lost their lives, their stories and their memorials. Despite being somewhat depressing it made everyone appreciate the service of these young me, who made the ultimate sacrifice. By identifying many local spots of significant historical interest he has inspired us to visit some of these as we trundle about the county in our trusty Austins.
The next meeting in March is set to get pulses racing as the thrills and spills of International Gravity Shoebox Racing returns to The Navenburg Ring for the start of the 2026 season.
