September Report 2026

New Lincs Group Secretary required
Our Group constitution requires us to have both a Secretary & Treasurer with our accounts annually audited, and a copy sent to PWA7C for scrutiny [ This is currently happening ]. Any ad hoc members are at the discretion of the Lincs Group. Secretary.
If no one steps up to the position of Lincs Group Secretary by 1st November then I propose a notice in the PWA7C Magazine stating all that the Group’s Activities [ excepting the “7’s to SEA , National Event “ ] are hereby suspended until further notice . This will include all activities, meetings, runs, Loan Car etc. etc. ( At least by then the new trailer will be in place but not able to be used.)
This is a sad time for me as I had always envisaged handing on the stewardship and growth of the Club to the next secretary with the enthusiasm that I took the baton from Ed. Davies.

Alan Stennett’s Septembers talk – “Lincolnshire lads on the Veldt”
Considering the advertising we had given for this talk it was extremely disappointing turnout of only 14 members, especially as this was the start of our monthly return to Navenby. Please make every effort to support our monthly meetings. I was at home recovering from a shoulder replacement operation. Ben & Paddy stood in for me, and this is their report:-
For those unable to be there they missed a fascinating talk by Alan Stennett on "The Lincolnshire lads in the Veldt"
Alan is the author of many books on local history; railways, farming, the military and Lincolnshire dialect and is a regular advisor to the BBC and so on .His talk described his grandfather's time in the Boer War as a volunteer from the Lincolnshire Yeomanry with the Lincolnshire Regiment.
Alan had all his grandfather's letters from that time and, using these, he and his wife retraced his travels up country from South Africa, visiting the sites where his ancestor had campaigned.
Listening to him reading the letters giving a first-hand account really brought it to life: how they were ambushed by the Boers and had to make a swift withdrawal before their position was completely surrounded, leaving many of their comrades dead and wounded. He also described the Lincolnshire's involvement with the re-occupation of Pretoria and the relief of Ladysmith.
All adventurous stuff for the young man before he returned to Lincolnshire and the family farm.

Please make every effort to support our 2026 calendar
