Dunholme Lodge Open Gardens - Sunday 28th June 2026

After the searing heat wave, Sunday, June 28th delivered perfect weather to

enjoy the many attractions at Dunholme Lodge Open Gardens.

Apart from the stunning grounds and gardens, the plant and craft stalls and the ukulele band

playing popular tunes throughout the day, there were the two small museums

to explore.

The first gives a fascinating insight into the squadrons stationed

there during the second World War when farmland was sacrificed to provide

yet another airfield in ‘Bomber County’.

The second museum, full of artefacts, photographs and memorabilia tells the story of the first three post-war airfield racing circuits: Dunholme Lodge, Goodwood and Silverstone, although now overshadowed by the fame of Goodwood and Silverstone, in its day Dunholme was on a par and witnessed many of the speed stars of the day on two wheels and four; Ken Wharton and Stirling Moss among them. All fascinating stuff !

One of the objectives of the Open Garden Scheme is to raise money for

health and nursing charities. It is good that our eclectic display of cars is able

to add to the attractions for the general public year after year and support

such worthy causes, whilst providing us with an interesting and relaxing day

out – long may it continue.
